In ordinary life we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give,
and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.

~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
(German pastor, theologian, and Nazi dissident, 1906-1945)

For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds,
and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

~ Matthew 7:8

Help me ask expectantly. May I receive gratefully. Amen.

Nothing in this life comes from passive activity. We receive because we ask. We find because we seek. The door is opened because we knock.

The little caveat is we may not receive what we ask for, but it will be exactly what we need. We may not find what we were seeking, but it will be exactly what we needed to find. We may open the door, the person knocking wasn’t who we were expecting.

For today:
What did you want to receive?
What did you ask for?
What did you get?

You might consider writing in a journal or sharing what you experienced.
