I’m participating in the C.A.R.E.S. AIDS Walk Sunday, September 18, 2011. In fact, my whole family is joining in and we’re inviting our friends to join us, or if they can’t join us, to consider donating to our Dare to Care Team.
June 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of AIDS in the United States. I’ve been blogging on Tuesdays about my experiences from the early years of AIDS, 1984-1993. It was a whole different world back then and thankfully we’ve come a long ways in understanding and treating HIV/AIDS. As with any public health issue, vigilance in education, testing, patient care, and research is an ongoing effort.
Last year, one of my sons tested positive for HIV. No mother wants any of their children to experience injury or chronic illness, but it’s a reality of life. I am grateful for the services available to him through the C.A.R.E.S. Clinic in Sacramento. Last year, my siblings and their families joined my son in the AIDS Walk. My husband and I weren’t able to participate because of a previous commitment. This year, we’re traveling from Texas to California to participate.
I’m also extending the invitation to walk or donate to our Eternal Scheme community. In fact, we have some that have already signed up for the Dare to Care Team through other Eternal Scheme blog readers. I am really looking forward to meeting, in person, these faithful readers who will be walking with us!
